Chapel Discussion Questions - 12/16/15

Yesterday in chapel we heard a story from Pastor Tony about being lost in a store when he was a young boy.  The management had to announce his name over the P.A. system in order to reunite him with his parents.  He told about the joy that he felt when his parents came to get him and compared his story to our story of being separated from God and reunited through Jesus' death on the cross for us.


Here are this week's questions:

1.       Have you ever been lost or separated from your parents?  If so, how did you feel?

2.       Once you got back together with your parents, what emotions did you feel?

3.       How did Jesus get us back into a right relationship with our Heavenly Father?

Chapel Discussion Questions - 12/9/15

We are very grateful to each family and teacher that is taking time to reinforce what we're learning in chapel each week!

Today, Marco, a student intern from Mosaic Church, talked about the problem that all people have:  sin!  He also talked about the wonderful way that God solved our sin problem and the free gift that God has given us:  salvation!  Marco played a game where he got three student volunteers to try to jump a long distance between two pieces of tape that were on the stage.  No one could jump that far, not even Marco!  He then explained that his game was a visual of the way sin separates people from God and that Jesus serves as the bridge to reconnect us back to God.

Then we talked about the story of Jonah and the fact that he had such a close relationship with God that God spoke to him.  Jonah tried to run from God and ended up inside a big fish, but God forgave Jonah when he asked God to save him.

Romans 3:23

²³ For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.

Romans 6:23

²³ For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.

Jonah 1:1-3, 17

1 The Lord gave this message to Jonah son of Amittai: ² “Get up and go to the great city of Nineveh. Announce my judgment against it because I have seen how wicked its people are.”³ But Jonah got up and went in the opposite direction to get away from the Lord. He went down to the port of Joppa, where he found a ship leaving for Tarshish. He bought a ticket and went on board, hoping to escape from the Lord by sailing to Tarshish.

¹⁷ Now the Lord had arranged for a great fish to swallow Jonah. And Jonah was inside the fish for three days and three nights.

Questions:
1.  What does the Bible say about people and sin?
2.  What free gift does God have for his children?
3.  What happened to Jonah when he tried to run away from God?

This season may we all focus on the most precious gift that has ever been gifted to us--Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.

Chapel Discussion Questions - 12/2/15

In chapel today we talked about choices, and we read three stories about a fisherman, Peter.  Here are the short versions of the stories:

Matthew 4:18-20 (ERV)

Peter chooses to leave his job and follow Jesus

¹⁸ As Jesus was walking by Lake Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon (called Peter) and Simon’s brother Andrew. These brothers were fishermen, and they were fishing in the lake with a net. ¹⁹ Jesus said to them, “Come, follow me, and I will make you a different kind of fishermen. You will bring in people, not fish.” ²⁰ Simon and Andrew immediately left their nets and followed him.

Matthew 26:69-75 (ERV)

Peter chooses to say that he does not know Jesus

⁶⁹ While Peter was sitting outside in the yard, a servant girl came up to him. She said, “You were with Jesus, that man from Galilee.” ⁷⁰ But Peter told everyone there that this was not true. “I don’t know what you are talking about,” he said. ⁷¹ Then he left the yard. At the gate another girl saw him and said to the people there, “This man was with Jesus of Nazareth.” ⁷² Again, Peter said he was never with Jesus. He said, “I swear to God I don’t know the man!” ⁷³ A short time later those standing there went to Peter and said, “We know you are one of them. It’s clear from the way you talk.” ⁷⁴ Then Peter began to curse. He said, “I swear to God, I don’t know the man!” As soon as he said this, a rooster crowed. ⁷⁵ Then he remembered what Jesus had told him: “Before the rooster crows, you will say three times that you don’t know me.” Then Peter went outside and cried bitterly.

Peter chooses to tell people about Jesus

¹⁸ So the Jewish leaders called Peter and John in again. They told the apostles not to say anything or to teach anything in the name of Jesus. ¹⁹ But Peter and John answered them, “What do you think is right? What would God want? Should we obey you or God? ²⁰ We cannot be quiet. We must tell people about what we have seen and heard.”

Here are some discussion questions for your family or your class:

1.    Name some choices that you made today.  Did they turn out to be good ones?

2.     What are some big, life-changing choices that you might make in the future?

3.     God loves us and created us with the ability to choose whether or not to love him back.  What do you think about this choice?
